FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Coalinga, CA

Harris Farms, one of California’s leading thoroughbred facilities, announced today that they have acquired a major equity interest in the stallion Huddle Up, and he will be joining their 1998 stallion roster.

Huddle Up, son of recently deceased Horse of the Year and Champion, Sir Ivor, has distinguished himself by siring a high percentage of winners from modest crops of average mares. His six small crops to the races totaling 49 runners have produced 32 winners, earning nearly one million dollars, including California Breeders Champion Stakes winner and California Cup Juvenile Fillies Stakes winner Rexy Sexy, and several other notable runners such as Reb’s Gal Sal, winner of 15 races.

John C. Harris, Chairman and CEO of Harris Farms stated "We are very happy to acquire an equity interest in Huddle Up, and to add him to our roster of quality stallions. We have followed his development as a rising and notable sire, and note that his success is a result of the efforts of individuals dedicated to the California breeding and racing industry. We believe Huddle Up has a significant contribution to make, and we hope to provide the excellent environment to take him to the next level. This is a stallion worthy of general support."

Mr. And Mrs. Alvin E. Toffel, co-owners of Huddle Up said, "We are very proud to have our stallion’s accomplishments recognized by Harris Farms in such a meaningful way. Not only are we thrilled to be part of the Harris "stallion family", but we are also pleased that he will now be more accessible to Central and Northern California breeders. We feel this is the correct step to help this talented sire reach his full potential."

Huddle Up’s 1998 stud fee will be $2,000, and bookings are now being taken.

Huddle Up is a multiple stakes placed runner out of the graded stakes mare Huggle Duggle by Never Bend. Huddle up is a half brother to Al Mundhir, group winner in Germany. Originally purchased by the late Gene Klien, Huddle Up was trained by D. Wayne Lukas, who praised him as one of his leading Kentucky Derby candidates. He was injured in the Jersey Derby while engaged in a stretch dual with Spend a Buck. A notable but disappointing accomplishment was a nose loss to Phone Trick in the Debonair Stakes, while setting a new track record at Hollywood Park. Bred for speed, he has a dosage profile of 15-22-14-1-0 (52 pts.), a dosage index of 5.50, and center of distribution of 0.98. Several of his runners, however, including Rexy Sexy, have proven to be precocious routers. Other notable Huddle Up winners include Cup O’Huddle (a multiple allowance winner in 108+ time), Cataluna, Golden Huddle, Hutonehotel, Two Minute Drill, Pretty Christian, and Donthesilks, among others.
