Harris Connections For Cal Cup XXI

Enriched, Unusual Suspect the Class in Classic
Stakes winners Enriched and Unusual Suspect are likely to duel in Saturday’s $150,000 California Cup Classic Stakes, presented by City National Bank, at Oak Tree at Hollywood Park.

Unusual Suspect is by Unusual Heat, out of the Crested Wave mare Penpont, was bred by David Abrams, is owned by Barry, David and Dyan Abrams and trained by Barry Abrams. He has eight wins in 53 starts, earnings of $855,171 and is coming off a sixth in the Oct. 3 Clement Hirsch. He has a sixth, a fifth and a win in the last three Cal Cup Miles at Santa Anita but has a current 15-race losing streak.

Enriched is by High Brite, out of the Nostalgia’s Star mare Li’l Ms. Leonard, was bred by Carol Lingenfelter, is owned by W. C. Racing, Westside Rentals.com and Neil Haymes and is trained by Doug O’Neill. He has seven wins in 22 starts, earnings of $512,656 and is coming off a fifth in the Oct. 9 Shadwell Turf Mile. He was third in last year’s Cal Cup Mile at Santa Anita.

My Boy Walsh is by Unusual Heat, out of the Irish River mare Irish Bracelet, was bred by Roberts, Abrams, Huston, Matties & Nakkashian, is owned by Tom Roberts and trained by Gary Sherlock. He has one win in 12 starts, earnings of $75,200 and is coming off a sixth in an Oct. 15 allowance.

Lodi Red is by Redattore, out of the Relaunch mare Jah, was bred by Harris Farms, is owned by Harris Farms and Doris Johnson and trained by Sean McCarthy. He has one win in eight starts, earnings of $59,020 and is coming off a third in an Oct. 15 allowance.

Cost of Freedom in Sprint
High-weighted Cost of Freedom drew the rail in a field of five entered for Saturday’s $100,000 Donald Valpredo California Cup Sprint Stakes, the first race on the Cal Cup card at Oak Tree at Hollywood Park.

Cost of Freedom is by Cee’s Tizzy, out of the Moscow Ballet mare Freedom Dance, was bred by Harris Farms, is owned by Gary and Cecil Barber and trained by John Sadler. The former Grade I winner, third in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Sprint, has eight wins in 18 starts, earnings of $692,263 and is coming off a fourth in the Oct. 9 Ancient Title.

Tiz Smoke Tiz Fire tries to take the Saturday’s $100,000 CTT/TOC California Cup Matron Stakes for fillies and mares at Oak Tree at Hollywood Park.

Tiz Smoke Tiz Fire is by Cee’s Tizzy, out of the General Meeting mare Sunset Serenade, was bred by Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Nierenberg, is owned by Michael Bello, Jack Mandato and Russell Sarno and trained by Doug O’Neill. The $8,500 Barretts purchase is coming off a maiden win in her ninth start with earnings of $49,110.

Tiz Argent is by Tizbud, out of the Lord Avie mare Classy Lass, was bred by Michael Cooper and Pamela Ziebarth, is owned by Ziebarth and trained by John Sadler. He has two wins in four starts, earnings of $69,480 and is coming off a win in an Oct. 15 allowance. This is his stakes debut.

Pop’shands Are Hot is by Unusual Heat, out of the Kipper Kelly mare Kitten’s Sister, was bred by Kevin Matties, is owned by Gary Magolis, Westside Rentals.com and W C Racing. He has one win in 22 starts, earnings of $113,440 and is coming off a second in an Oct. 15 allowance. This is his stakes debut.

Colgan’s Chip is by Cee’s Tizzy, out of the Theatrical mare Leaning Tower, was bred by Richard Masson, is owned by Green Lantern Stable and trained by Jenine Sahadi. He has four wins in 12 starts, earnings of $212,712 and lost by a nose to Liberian Freighter in the Oct. 9 Oak Tree Mile.

Luckarack in Juvenile

Luckarack seeks his third stakes victory when he faces unbeaten Contemplated in Saturday’s $75,000 Bob Benoit California Cup Juvenile at Oak Tree at Hollywood Park.

Luckarack is by Lucky Pulpit, out of the Dehere mare Tamarack Bay, was bred by owners Mr. and Mrs. Larry Williams and is trained by Steve Specht. He has three wins in four starts, earnings of $82,900 and is coming off a fifth in the Angels Island Sept. 11.

Woodmans Luck is by Lucky Pulpit, out of the Woodman mare Royal Woodman, was bred by owners Mr. and Mrs. Larry Williams and is trained by Mike Puype. He is coming off a maiden win in his sixth start Oct. 16 with earnings of $43,066.

Swiss Wild Cat is the lone multiple winner among eight entries in Saturday’s $75,000 Robert H. Walter California Cup Juvenile Fillies Stakes at Oak Tree at Hollywood Park.

Swiss Wild Cat is out of the Swiss Yodeler mare I Can Yodele, was bred by owner Heinz Steinmann and trained by Mike Harrington. She has two wins in nine starts, earnings of $144,552 and is coming off a third in an Oct. 7 allowance.
