Harris Farms' Connected Cal Cup Entrants Headlined by Unzip Me

$125,000 John Deere California Cup Distaff, 6.5 furlongs on the turf for Cal-breds or Cal-sireds fillies and mares at Santa Anita.

Unzip Me is by City Zip, out of the Arazi mare Escape With Me, was bred by Harris Farms and Donald Valpredo, is owned by Harris Farms, Valpredo, Antonsen et al and is trained by Martin Jones. She has 12 wins in 22 starts, earnings of $818,228 and is coming off a fourth in the Sept. 30 Ken Maddy.

Bench Glory is by Benchmark, out of the Skywalker mare Image of Glory, was bred by owner Harris Farms and is trained by Sean McCarthy. She has two wins in four starts, earnings of $77,554 and is coming off a fifth in a Sept. 5 optional claimer.


$100,000 Donald Valpredo California Cup Sprint for Cal-breds or Cal-sireds at Santa Anita.

Mensa Heat is by Unusual Heat, out of the Ole mare Chi Chi Nette, was bred by Madeline Auerbach and David Abrams, is owned by Peter Redekop and trained by Ted West. He has eight wins in 39 starts, earnings of $366,258 and is coming off a third in the Oct. 8 Ancient title.

Defending champion Cost of Freedom is by Cee’s Tizzy, out of the Moscow Ballet mare Freedom Dance, was bred by Harris Farms, is owned by Steve Moger and trained by Ed Moger Jr. He has 11 wins in 26 starts, earnings of $910,013 and is coming off a second in a Sept. 17 optional claimer.

Grade I winner Bob Black Jack is by Stormy Jack, out of the Native Prospector mare Molly’s Prospector, was bred by Gary and Marlene Howard and Bruce Dunmore, is owned by Harmon & Kasparoff and is trained by James Kasparoff. He has five wins in 11 starts, earnings of $684,925 and is making his first start since winning the Feb. 20 San Carlos Handicap. He also holds the Santa Anita synthetic track record for this distance.


$175,000 California Cup Classic, presented by City National Bank, for Cal-breds or Cal-sireds at 1 1/8 miles on the Santa Anita turf course.

Tiz Argent is by Tizbud, out of the Lord Avie mare Classy Lass, was bred by Michael Cooper and owner Pamela Ziebarth and is trained by John Sadler. He has three wins in nine starts, earnings of $139,964 and is making his first start since a third in an Apr. 7 allowance. He was fifth in last year’s Cal Cup Mile.

Rousing Sermon is by Lucky Pulpit, out of the Awesome Again mare Rousing Again, was bred by owners Mr. and Mrs. Larry Williams and is trained by Jerry Hollendorfer. He had one win in three starts, earnings of $54,000 and is coming off a third in the Sept. 5 I’m Smokin.

Inquisitive Son is by Unusual Heat, out of the Bertrando mare Silber, was bred by owners Huston Racing, Loverso or Perez et al and is trained by Barry Abrams. He has one win in seven starts, earnings of $42,400 and is coming off a second in an Oct. 16 starter’s allowance.
