Moscow Ballet Daughters Produce Classic Winner and G3 SW

Harris Farms' Moscow Ballet, who stood his entire career at Harris Farms, became the broodmare sire of a Belmont Stakes winner Drosselmeyer Saturday June 5th.  Additionally, Moscow Ballet daughter Freedom Dance produced Cost of Freedom who won the Grade 3 Los Angeles Handicap that same day.

Drosselmeyer, winner of Saturday’s $1 million Belmont Stakes, is out of the Grade I winning California-bred mare Golden Ballet.

Golden Ballet is a daughter of Moscow Ballet who was bred by Dutton and Popovich. She won the Grade I Las Virgenes and Santa Anita Oaks.

She has six wins in 10 starts, earnings of $732,145 and was sold for $1.6 million at the 2001 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.

Drosselmeyer, sold for $600,000 as a yearling, is the fifth foal out of Golden Ballet, who also produced stakes winner Stage Luck, a $1.6 million purchase.

Cost of Freedom Takes Los Angeles Handicap

Even-money favorite Cost of Freedom held on to score a game win in Saturday’s $100,000 Grade III Los Angeles Handicap at Hollywood Park.

Cost of Freedom is by Cee’s Tizzy, out of the Moscow Ballet mare Freedom Dance, is bred by Harris Farms, is owned by Gary and Cecil Barber and trained by John Sadler.

He has eight wins in 15 starts, earnings of $666,105 and was coming off a win in a May 6 optional claimer.

He ran the six furlongs in 1:08.46 and won by three-quarters of a length.
