Cee's Tizzy, Sire of Tiznow, Pensioned

By Blood-Horse Staff Cee's Tizzy, sire of two-time Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I) winner  and major sire Tiznow  , has been pensioned from stallion duty at John C. Harris’ Harris Farms near Coalinga, Calif. The son of Relaunch is 23.

“His fertility diminished over the last two years, and this past year he only settled four mares,” said farm manager Dave McGlothlin. “We thought it would be in his best interest to retire him and have him enjoy his remaining years without the stress of the breeding shed.

He’s in excellent health and looks like he’s 15. He’s certainly willing to go to the breeding shed, but his fertility has dropped off.”

Cee’s Tizzy has helped rejuvenate the Man o’ War male line primarily through the exploits of Tiznow. Winner of the 2000-01 Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I) and a champion both years, Tiznow has developed into an important stallion, siring such major runners as champion Folklore, Belmont Stakes (gr. I) winner Da' Tara, Colonel John, and Well Armed while standing at WinStar Farm near Versailles, Ky.

Cee’s Tizzy raced for the late Cecilia (Cee) Straub-Rubens, winning or placing in five of six starts and earning $173,150. His best effort came in a third-place finish in the 1990 Super Derby (gr. I) behind winner Home At Last and Unbridled.

Tiznow won the 2000 Breeders’ Cup Classic for Straub-Rubens and the 2001 running for Cees Stable, a partnership that included members of Straub-Rubens’ family. Tiznow avenged Cee’s Tizzy’s loss in the Super Derby when winning the 2000 running in track-record time. Tiznow earned three championships, including 2000 Horse of the Year.

Cee’s Tizzy has sired 39 stakes winner and the earners of more than $35 million, including other grade I winners Gourmet Girl and Cost of Freedom and $2.8-million earner Budroyale.

Lucy Ruspoli Racing Stable is the breeder of Cee’s Tizzy, who is out of the Lyphard mare Tizly.
